What documents do I need to get started? +
Your home buyer survey is the most valuable document you can give Howard — even just that will get you a detailed health check. But Howard can work with anything: EPC certificate, gas safety certificate, building regs completion certs, previous survey reports. The more you upload, the more Howard knows.
How long does Howard take to analyse my survey? +
For a standard Level 2 or Level 3 survey, Howard typically returns your home health check within a few hours. We'll email you when it's ready — you don't need to wait around.
Is the home health check really free? +
Yes — completely free. Howard earns a small commission (7%) when a job is completed through the platform. That's how we fund the service. You never pay Howard directly, and you're never obligated to use Howard to find a tradesperson.
What if I bought my home a while ago — is it too late? +
Not at all. Howard is useful at any stage of home ownership. If you have an old survey, Howard can still extract the findings and tell you what's been done vs what's still open. And if you don't have a survey, you can tell Howard about your home directly and he'll build up a picture over time.
How do you vet the tradespeople? +
Every tradesperson on Howard is manually reviewed by our team. We check Gas Safe or NICEIC registration (depending on trade), public liability insurance, and completed job history. You'll never need to ask "are you qualified?" — Howard already asked.
What happens to my documents? +
Your documents are stored securely with bank-level encryption and used only to power Howard's recommendations for your home. Three things worth knowing: first, we never share your individual survey or property data with anyone — not insurers, not tradespeople, not third parties. Tradespeople only ever see a job description Howard creates, never your original documents. Second, insurance suggestions are triggered by jobs completed (a new boiler means Howard suggests boiler cover) — never by defects found in your survey. Howard is designed so your data is never used against you. Third, you can request deletion of everything at any time and we'll remove it within 48 hours.
